Introducing Mobile Unlock with Passkeys

We're excited to announce one of our most requested features: Mobile Unlock with Passkey authentication. Starting today, you can unlock any door in your ctrlentry system directly from your smartphone's browser - no app download required.

How It Works

Mobile Unlock leverages the WebAuthn standard and your device's built-in biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint) to provide a seamless, secure unlock experience:

1. Navigate to your ctrlentry dashboard on your phone
2. Tap the door you want to unlock
3. Authenticate with your face or fingerprint
4. The door unlocks instantly

The entire process takes less than 3 seconds, and because it uses passkeys instead of passwords, it's actually more secure than traditional methods.

Why Passkeys?

Passkeys represent the future of authentication. Unlike passwords, they can't be phished, guessed, or stolen in a data breach. Each passkey is cryptographically bound to both your device and the ctrlentry domain, making them virtually impossible to compromise.

For access control, this is particularly important. The last thing you want is someone gaining unauthorized physical access to your building because they guessed a PIN or stole a badge.

No App Required

One of the key decisions we made was to build Mobile Unlock as a Progressive Web App (PWA) rather than a native iOS or Android app. This means:

• No app store downloads or updates to manage
• Works on any modern smartphone browser
• Add to home screen for an app-like experience
• Instant access - just open and authenticate

Getting Started

Mobile Unlock is available now for all ctrlentry users. To set it up:

1. Log into your ctrlentry account on your phone
2. Go to Profile → Security → Add Passkey
3. Follow the prompts to register your device
4. That's it - you're ready to unlock doors with your phone
