Gateway v2.0: Faster, More Reliable, Better
The latest gateway release brings significant performance improvements and new features for enterprise deployments.
Today we're releasing Gateway v2.0, a major update to the software that connects your local access controllers to the ctrlentry cloud. This release brings substantial improvements to performance, reliability, and enterprise features.
What's New
50% Faster Command Execution
We've completely rewritten the command pipeline in Gateway v2.0. The result? Door unlock commands now execute in under 200ms on average, down from 400ms in v1.x. For users, this means more responsive mobile unlock and faster badge reads.
Improved Connection Resilience
Network interruptions happen. Gateway v2.0 handles them more gracefully with:
- Automatic reconnection with exponential backoff
- Local event buffering during outages (up to 10,000 events)
- Seamless credential sync when connectivity returns
- Health monitoring with automatic recovery
Multi-Controller Support
A single Gateway v2.0 instance can now manage up to 64 access controllers (up from 16 in v1.x). For larger deployments, this means fewer gateway instances to manage and lower infrastructure costs.
Enhanced Logging
Troubleshooting is easier with structured JSON logging, configurable log levels, and integration with popular log aggregation tools. You can now forward gateway logs to your existing monitoring infrastructure.
Windows Tray Application
For Windows deployments, we've added a system tray application that provides at-a-glance status and easy access to logs without opening a terminal.
Upgrading
Existing gateways will automatically update to v2.0 over the next week. If you'd like to update immediately:
- Download the latest gateway from your ctrlentry dashboard
- Stop the current gateway process
- Replace the binary and restart
- Your enrollment and configuration are preserved
The update takes less than a minute and requires no reconfiguration.
System Requirements
Gateway v2.0 maintains the same minimal system requirements:
- 64MB RAM (128MB recommended)
- 50MB disk space
- Network connectivity to controllers (UDP) and cloud (HTTPS/gRPC)
- Supported platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux (x64, ARM, ARM64)
What's Next
We're already working on Gateway v2.1, which will include:
- Real-time event streaming to external systems
- Custom controller protocol support via plugins
- Enhanced diagnostics and self-test capabilities
